I am a photo- mixed media artist, based in Lexington KY since 1976. My studio/gallery is in the Distillery District where in addition to exhibiting my current art there is a revolving display of art from established and emerging artist for the community to enjoy. I was schooled in traditional photography but my photo-mixed media art has become anything but traditional. I break the photograph down to the basic elements of light, form, texture and tone then use collage, paint and other mixed media elements to expand the photograph beyond its borders. Reading all three proposals for the Bourbon Barrel Project I was struck with how much water had to do with each proposal. From resurrecting the Town Branch Creek downtown to connecting Rupp Arena with the Town Branch Trail water is the main focus. Water is also an important element in the making of Bourbon. With this in mind I chose to "fill” my Bourbon Barrel with Town Branch water. Accessing Town Branch Creek from behind the Pepper Distillery I photographed the reflections of the sky and clouds in the water. Then I "deconstructed” this abstracted image of the water and intermix it with the barrel staves. The barrel becomes visually stimulating with the juxtaposition of the actual sized barrel staves and the larger than life image of the water. To further tie the image together a light blue wash was applied to the staves of the barrel. « Previous ArtistNext Artist » |
